In recent years, a pioneer in the treatment of disconnective disorders, Dr. Robert Melillo, had begun to see what wave after wave of research now confirms. With nearly 1 in 62 births producing an autistic child, we are facing a true epidemic of children’s autism and imminent crisis in associated social and economic effects. As co-founder of Brain Balance Achievement Centers, Dr. Melillo also realized that little is being done in the way of research to help stave off, and indeed reverse this troubling trend. And what little research is being done is under-funded and often part of a broader, less-focused initiative.
There was only one thing to do. Establish an organization dedicated entirely to researching autism in children. So, Dr. Melillo founded the F.R. Carrick Institute, now known as the Children’s Autism Hope Project. The Hope Project exists to uncover the underlying causes and mechanisms of autism and to use this knowledge to develop more effective treatments and perhaps one day, a cure. It also exists to create hope for the children and families who face the challenges of autism every day.
We would just like to thank all who took the time to attend our 3rd annual Fundaraiser at the Marquee Nightclub in Manhattan. It was a tremendous success! We've heard you, we understand, and we WILL make a difference together with your donations and our research. Thank you to the City Chicks, Howard Cross, Darryl Strawberry, and again, all of you!
